Varaka Kağıt facilities, where only scrap paper is used as raw material, not trees, and where water and energy are consumed 5 times less than many similar facilities, are an important example of sustainability efforts. Holding licenses such as ISO 50001 Energy Management System and Zero Waste Certificate, Varaka has included the Waste Water Advanced Treatment Plant and SPP Project in its 2023-2025 plan.
Varaka, which determines the basis of production as sustainability, recycles paper and packaging waste into the economy by using 100% scrap paper.
Full support for sustainable energy saving
Varaka Kâğıt’s facility in Balıkesir, which generates its own energy with its own resources, not only produces 250,000 tonnes of packaging paper annually, but also makes significant savings in terms of sustainable energy. Varaka, which established its own cogeneration plant for its steam and electrical energy needs in terms of sustainability, has reached an electricity generation capacity of 320,000 MW.
With the state-of-the-art FGD flue gas removal systems used in the facility, environmental awareness is highlighted by staying below legal emission limits, while sustainable energy saving is achieved with the steam turbine capable of operating with high efficiency.
The cogeneration plant not only generates electricity but also meets the drying needs of the plant with a maximum steam production of 150 tonnes per hour. While the environmentalism of the factory comes to the forefront by using energy resources correctly and efficiently, the wastewater from the process is treated and discharged in the treatment plant consisting of physical, chemical and biological treatment units with a daily capacity of 9400 cubic metres, and water consumption has been reduced to 6,000 m³ with the improvements made.
