The furniture, paper and forestry products industry, which improves its design and product quality day by day and looks beyond with new investments, aims to increase its export capacity by delivering its products to new markets. Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, which paves the way for the industries included to increase their market shares by strengthening their presence in the international arena, carried out the “Mauritania – Senegal General Trade Delegation” event with the coordination of the Ministry of Trade and the organization of the General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters’ Associations. The event was attended by Ahmet Güleç, Deputy President of the Turkish Exporters’ Association (TİM), representing the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) as the head of the delegation, and Kazım Taycı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, representing the Istanbul Exporters’ Association General Secretariat. “Mauritania – Senegal General Trade Delegation” organisation was attended by exporters from 10 different industries. Ahmet Güleç, Vice President of the Turkish Exporters’ Association (TİM), said: “All the countries we will visit in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Countries Strategy coordinated by our Ministry of Trade are countries with which we have good bilateral relations from past to present. In this context, we organized a trade delegation visit to Mauritania and Senegal together with our exporter companies. Our meetings were very efficient. As the Turkish Exporters Assembly, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, we lead the creation of macro and sectoral export strategies and prepare our exporters for the coming years. Accordingly, our trade with both countries we visited is increasing day by day and we are getting good results in exports. As a result of our new meetings, we think this will be going to further in the upcoming period,” he said.

The potential of Turkish producers will be realised in the new markets

Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association continues to carry out its activities at full speed in order to expand its export markets and increase its efficiency in existing markets. Association made its first visit to Mauritania and Senegal, which are among the shining stars of West Africa and attract great interest with their stable trade capacities, within the scope of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Countries Strategy under the coordination of the Ministry of Trade and the organisation of the General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters’ Associations. While the African geography promises a productive trade environment in terms of target export markets, Güleç, speaking on the trade delegation organisation, said, “Mauritania and Senegal are among the most important countries of the African continent. Our commercial activities for the region are increasing day by day. We exported 637 million dollars to Senegal in 2022 and 208 million dollars to Mauritania. Both countries love Turkish products and approach us warmly. As the furniture, paper and forestry products industry, we have held various negotiations in order to get more place in the market, and we expect to receive the results of these negotiations in a positive way in 2024. Senegal and Mauritania are countries that attract attention with their geographical location and port opportunities. When we look at this side of the business, it is also possible to be an important cooperation centre in our trade towards the region. In addition, the fact that Turkish Airlines has reciprocal passenger and cargo flights to Dakar is one of the factors that will facilitate our logistics to the region. We expect our exports to the region through Senegal and Mauritania to expand in terms of capacity in the coming period and we are carrying out intensive activities to achieve this. We would like to thank Hatice Nur Sağman, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Dakar, Mr. Abdoulaye Sow, President of the Dakar Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Momar Diouf, President of the Turkey – Senegal Business Council for their precious contributions to our organisation.”
